ok... update.. waha

accdg to wikipedia...

Botnet is a jargon term for a collection of software robots, or bots, which run autonomously and automatically. They run on groups of "zombie" computers controlled remotely by hackers. This can also refer to the network of computers using distributed computing software.
While the term "botnet" can be used to refer to any group of bots, such as IRC bots, the word is generally used to refer to a collection of compromised computers (called zombie computers) running programs, usually referred to as worms, Trojan horses, or backdoors, under a common command and control infrastructure. A botnet's originator (aka "bot herder") can control the group remotely, usually through a means such as IRC, and usually for nefarious purposes. Individual programs manifest as IRC "bots". read more

Malicious purposes
Another, more malicious use of bots is the coordination and operation of an automated attack on networked computers, such as a denial-of-service attack. (see botnet) Internet bots can also be used to commit click fraud and more recently have seen usage around MMORPG games as computer game bots. A spambot is an internet bot that attempts to spam large amounts of content on the Internet, usually adding advertising links.

so basically.. bots are roBOTS designed for any specific purpose.. they're programmed by hackers.. but they move on their own? is that it? well.. in a lot of games.. (RAGNAROK) they use bots that control their characters for them in game so they don't have to log in at all..

new member? kewl..

uhm.. the Yahoo/Google bots are crawlers or "spiders" as some techies would call them.. they "crawl" around the web, checking out pages.. like. adding them to their databases.. like a census of some sort...

at least.. that's how I understand it..
